Mental and sexual development

Scientists often define this age as a crisis of identity, with the overcoming of which the person acquires a clear sense of individuality. Cognitively, young people have developed abstract thinking and can more easily describe their experiences in words. At the same time, this period is associated with emotional instability and conflict in behavior. Adolescents want to make decisions on their own, to take initiatives, to overcome difficulties. They do not accept the imposition of tasks and orders. That is why adolescence is also known as the „rebellious“ period.
During this period, some important events are coming or have already happened - a change in the familiar school environment, applying to high school. The students here are curious, active, noisy boys and girls who want to see and hear everything, to be like adults.
Intense mental and physical changes continue or are just occurring in the body. Children grow tall quickly and gain weight. The skin becomes greasier and acne may appear on the face, upper back and/or chest. Body odor is exacerbated by the action of various hormones and sweating increases. Boys and girls start using different lotions and deodorants. Sometimes it seems that they are always hungry and can eat constantly. They need more sleep, so it‘s a good idea to let them sleep on the weekends. Boys and girls acquire the appearance of young men and women. Physical and mental development do not occur in parallel. With the awakening of sexuality comes the need to create deeper and multi-layered relationships with the opposite sex, as well as the search for sexual pleasure.
The young person is increasingly separated from their family and orients themselves to their circle of friends, which creates conflicting feelings in the parent and in the young person themselves. On one hand, they still need the support of their parents, their love and attention, but on the other hand they want to be more independent and try new things and relationships with people outside the family. Despite the many things in common, this process also has many specifics for boys and girls:
